While smoking has pleasant effects for millions of people, there are plenty of other side effects to the habit which are not so pleasant (beyond its obvious health impact). Holding a cigarette in your fingers can cause them to become stained by the absorption of nicotine through the skin. However, these unsightly yellow stains can be removed with items you may have on hand in your household.
Instructions
Lemon Juice and Salt Solution
1. Combine 3-4 tablespoons of lemon juice with 1/8 teaspoon of salt in a small bowl.
2. Dip your fingers in the bowl to wet them with the solution, and scrub the stained area with a pumice stone.
3. Rinse and repeat Step 2 several times, until the stains are less noticeable or gone.
4. Follow each session with an application of hand lotion to protect the skin.
Using Bleach to Remove Stains
5. Add one capful of household bleach to a small dish.
6. Place stained fingertips directly into the bleach for approximately five minutes, and then rinse.
7. Wash hands with soap and water and dry them thoroughly.
8. Apply hand lotion to keep the skin on your fingers from drying.
