Quit Smoking By Utilizing Oranges

Smokers face a great amount of difficulty when attempting to quit smoking. Not only do you have to overcome the addiction to nicotine, but you also have to break the habit which can prove even more difficult. There are a number of solutions offered out there, from the nicotine patch to nicotine gum, but if you are attempting to quit on your own, there are foods in your kitchen that may help. Fresh oranges and orange juice can help you deal with the cravings while replenishing the vitamins your system needs.

Instructions

Preparation

1. Buy fresh oranges. Make eating the oranges or drinking the fresh juice easy by having it prepared and ready to go when the craving hits. The oranges are acidic which will help eliminate the nicotine from the body. They are also rich in vitamin c which will help replace the toxins left by the cigarettes.

2. Decide how you prefer to eat the orange. You may choose to peel the orange, section it and store it in an air tight container in the refrigerator until you are ready to eat it. An alternative is to slice it into quarter sections and store it in an air tight container in the refrigerator. Refrigerate the orange within two hours after cutting or peeling it. It should be fine in the refrigerator for up to one week, but always check for signs of spoilage before eating.

3. Prepare some fresh orange juice and store it in an air tight container in the refrigerator. If you have a juicer or juice squeezer, cut the orange into quarter sections first. Put the sections into the juicer, or squeeze each section over the squeezer. If you don't have either, you can just squeeze the section with your hands, letting the juice pass through a colander and then into a container. The colander will catch any unwanted seeds or pulp. Once you have your juice in the container, place an airtight lid onto the container and store it in the refrigerator. Refrigerate the juice within two hours of juicing; it can be left in the refrigerator for up to one week.

4. Drink at least two eight ounce glasses of orange juice or eat two oranges a day while your are quitting. The nicotine levels are highest the first couple of days after quitting. When feeling a craving for a cigarette, eat an orange or drink a glass of orange juice.
