Remove Tobacco Smoke Smell & Color From Walls

Remove cigarette smoke smell and color from walls with household items.

Smokers often do not notice the smell that lingers in their homes due to cigarette smoke. Cigarette smoke not only leaves behind an odor, but it can stain your walls as well. Nicotine and tar will stain the walls with an unpleasant yellow color. Instead of painting over the walls to hide the stains or mask the odors, you can clean the walls to restore them back to their original condition.

Instructions

Removing Stains

1. Mix 1/3 cup of ammonia with 1 tbsp. of liquid dish soap in a bowl.

2. Fill a 1-gallon bucket with warm water.

3. Add the ammonia and soap to the water. Stir to mix the ingredients well.

4. Dip a sponge into the solution. Wring out any excess liquid.

5. Wipe the stains with the sponge. Rinse the solution off with clean water.

Removing Smell

6. Combine an equal amount of white vinegar with warm water in a spray bottle.

7. Spray a small section of the wall at a time. Allow the vinegar to set for two to three minutes and wipe it off with a dry cloth.

8. Keep spraying the wall with the solution. Wipe the wall to remove the solution completely. Replace the washcloth or rinse it out when necessary.
