Nicotinate is a medication made up of a combination of niacin and inositol used in the treatment of blood disorders such as Raynaud's disease, high cholesterol and intermittent claudication. The drug works by loosening up the blood vessels in the body, which in turn allows blood to flow more easily and alleviates symptoms associated with the above problems. As is the case with most medications, there are a number of side effects associated with use.
Common Side Effects
As mentioned, there are certain side effects associated with using this medication. Some of these side effects include headache, nausea, upset stomach, belching, hiccups, nasal burning, constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, and general weakness. While these are considered the most common side effects associated with using Nicotinate, they only affect a small number of users.
Severe Side Effects
Unfortunately, there are also a number of severe side effects associated with using this drug. Some of these side effects include allergic reaction, skin rash, hives, difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, tightening of the chest and swelling of the lips, mouth, tongue and throat. These side effects are also very rare and do not affect a large amount of users.
Important Safety Information
Consult with your doctor before taking Nicotinate if any of the following apply: if you are pregnant, breast feeding, have allergies or have a blood clotting disorder. People who suffer from diabetes, kidney disorders or heart disease should never take this medication. Use caution as products containing niacin have been known to cause liver damage in a small number of users.
Use
Always use this medication in direct conjunction with your doctor's orders and never in dosages larger than has been recommended on the label. Nicotinate is administered in pill form and should always be taken with a full glass of water. The medication can be taken with or without food and should always be taken at the same time every day. Store Nicotinate away from sources of moisture and at room temperature.
