Eliminate Juice Stains On Teeth

Drinking juice without a straw increases the risk of stains.

Juice can stain your teeth and cause unsightly discoloration. Highly pigmented juices like grape juice and cranberry juice especially stain and yellow your teeth, but that does not mean you have to stop drinking them. Instead, care for your teeth immediately after drinking juices and take steps to whiten them on a regular basis. Doing so ensures that you can enjoy your favorite juices while maintaining a healthy, white smile.

Instructions

1. Drink juice through a straw to bypass your teeth -- minimizing contact gives the juice less opportunity to stain your teeth.

2. Rinse your mouth with water after drinking juice and wait 20 to 30 minutes before eating or drinking anything else, especially colored foods and liquids like black tea. After drinking juice, your teeth are temporarily weakened -- the acids in juice strip away a thin layer of enamel -- leaving them more susceptible to stains.

3. Avoid drinking ice-cold juice. Cold liquids open the pores in the enamel of your teeth, making them more vulnerable to stains, according to allure.com.

4. Use at-home tooth-whitening kits to brighten your teeth. Trays and peroxide strips are the most effective, as they hold the whitening agent against your teeth for extended periods of time. Follow the instructions on the package.

5. Brush your teeth with a whitening toothpaste formulated to prevent new stains from occurring. These are more effective than toothpastes that simply whiten your teeth. While some toothpastes are formulated only to whiten existing stains on your teeth, others form a protective layer around your teeth to block future stains -- if you drink juice regularly, this is the type of toothpaste you should use.
