Remove Smoking Stains On Vehicle Fabric

Smoke is not only bad for your health, but can leave ugly stains on your car fabric.

Smoking is a health hazard, as most people are well aware. Some people are not aware, however, of the unsightly stains that smoke can leave on car fabric. Smoke stains are yellowish-brown in color and diminish the appearance of the interior of the car. Removing smoke stains from car fabric can be done using the proper products and methods.

Instructions

1. Fill a bowl or bucket with a few drops of mild dish soap and hot water. Use your hand to mix up the soap and water, forming suds.

2. Dip a sponge into the bucket or bowl. Wring out the sponge well.

3. Scrub the smoke stain with the sponge and soapy water. Go over the spot with a rag and plain water to remove any soap residue.

4. Allow the car fabric to air dry. Inspect the fabric for any traces of the smoke stain.

5. Pour glycerin over the smoke stain if the soap and water did not remove it. Rub the glycerin into the fabric using a clean rag. Allow the glycerin to sit on the fabric for 30 minutes.

6. Wash the fabric again with the sponge and soapy water. Go over the fabric with a rag and plain water. Blot the fabric with a dry rag to absorb any excess moisture.

7. Use sodium thiosulphate if the smoke stain persists. Sodium thiosulphate can be purchased at most home improvement stores, pool supply stores or places where aquariums and fish tanks are sold.

8. Mix 1 tsp. sodium thiosulphate with 1 cup warm water into a bowl or bucket. Sponge the solution onto the smoke-stained fabric using a clean rag or sponge.

9. Allow the sodium thiosulphate to sit on the car fabric for about 30 minutes. Rinse the fabric with a rag and plain water. Blot the fabric with a dry towel to remove excess moisture.
