Quit Smoking Without Any Disadvantages

There are many reasons to quit smoking, but the best reason to quit is that smoking will eventually kill you. Smoking cigarettes causes lung cancer, heart disease and other serious medical conditions. The reason many smokers find it extremely difficult to quit is that their bodies have built up a dependency on nicotine. There can be other drawbacks to quitting, but follow these steps to ensure that you will quit smoking successfully and avoid these drawbacks.

1. Set a date for when you will stop smoking. If you set a date, this will hold you accountable and eliminate excuses for why you can't stop smoking. Tell others when you plan on quitting, which will help you stay motivated and avoid the drawback of talking yourself back into smoking.


2. Use nicotine patches or gum. These products can greatly reduce nicotine cravings and ensure your road to recovery. Use these products when you are first quitting, and slowly use less and less until you no longer are dependent on nicotine. Using nicotine substitutes, like patches or gum, will help you avoid the drawback of unbearable cravings.


3. Tell friends and family about your decision to quit in order to avoid the drawback of giving up because of lack of support. Encouragement from friends and family could help challenge you to quit for good.


4. Use other oral stimulants to replace cigarettes. Some examples include sunflower seeds and beef jerky. These foods can help avoid the drawback of having nothing to do with your hands and mouth.


5. Avoid tempting situations. For example, if your co-workers go outside to have a cigarette on a break, do not go out with them. To avoid the drawback of wanting to smoke when others are smoking, you need to not be around other smokers when they are lighting up. If you can avoid those situations, you will be more likely to quit successfully.
