Trazodone Withdrawal Unwanted Effects

Trazadone is an tetracyclic antidepressant medication used to increase serotonin levels in the brain and lead to the alleviation of symptoms that cause depression. However, if used too frequently, this drug can become addictive and lead to dependency in some users. As is the case with most medications, a number of side effects may occur with withdrawal after a user ceases treatment.

Common Side Effects

As mentioned, certain withdrawal side effects are associated with Trazadone. Some of these side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision, muscle pain, general weakness, headache, loss of appetite, and dry mouth. While these are the most common withdrawal symptoms reported after using Trazadone, some users report little or none of the above problems.

Severe Side Effects

Unfortunately, some severe withdrawal effects are also associated with this dependency on this medication. Some of these side effects include fainting, chills, fever, lightheadedness, body aches, flu-like symptoms, severe chest pain, increased perspiration, general ill feelings, and urination problems. These side effects are also extremely rare and do not affect a large amount of users.

Important Safety Information

Before using this medication, consult with your doctor if you suffer from any of the following ailments: manic depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, a history of suicidal behavior or drug abuse, or if you have recently had a heart attack. If you are under the age of 24 and begin taking antidepressants, you may have thoughts of suicide when you first begin treatment. Trazodone has been classified as FDA pregnancy category C risk, as it is unknown whether or not it can cause harm to an unborn baby.

Use

Due to the fact that Trazadone is highly addictive and can lead to withdrawals in users when treatment has ended, it is extremely important to take this medication exactly as it was prescribed to you by your doctor and never in dosages that exceed what has been recommended on the label. Never continue using this drug for a longer period of time than what your doctor recommends. Your doctor will monitor your blood on a regular basis to ensure that the medication is working properly.

Warning

If you experience any of the above side effects, contact your doctor immediately and consider admitting yourself to a rehabilitation clinic.

If an overdose is suspected, contact the poison control center and head directly to the nearest emergency room.

Trazadone is meant in the treatment of depression symptoms only and should never be used for any other medical purpose unless specifically prescribed by a doctor.
