Fad Food Diets

Fad food diets are popular diets that advertise fast weight loss.

Fad food diets are thought of as diets that become popular quickly and often become unpopular just as fast. Some people think they are poor diets but many of them are continually used and work well. Fad diets are aimed at making the person on the diet lose weight quickly by eating specific foods.

Cabbage Soup Diet

The cabbage soup diet is one of the more well-known rapid weight loss fad food diets. The soup is made from green cabbage, green onions, green peppers, celery, tomato juice and onion soup mix. There are many variations on the exact ingredients. The person on the diet eats the cabbage soup every day for seven days, along with a little something different each day, such as a baked potato on one day and fruit on another. The diet plan is laid out in the resources section.

Acai Berry Diet

Acai berries are high in antioxidants, and taking acai berry dietary supplements is very popular as of 2011. The pills are to be taken in conjunction with a diet and exercise plan already in place. Some people say they feel more energetic when taking acai berry. Acai berry also comes in liquid form. This diet became popularized by celebrities taking acai berry and saying they lost a lot of weight.

Atkins Diet

The book for the Atkins diet was written in the 1970s, but became popular in the 1990s decade. People on this diet eat low-carbohydrate foods and consume foods high in fat. Some health experts say that the fat intake is not good for people. However, many people have lost large amounts of weight on the Atkins diet. This diet is strict and takes getting used to. Most grocery stores and many restaurants have products that cater to the low-carb diet since it became popular.

Low-Fat Diets

Low-fat diets are just that: The dieter takes in low amounts of fat. In a low-fat diet, 20 to 30 percent of calories should come from fat. In a very low-fat diet, zero to 19 percent of calories should come from fat. This diet was especially popular in the 1980s and 1990s. Many people still eat low-fat diets and have lost weight. As with the Atkins diet, grocery stores and restaurants carry and advertise low-fat foods for people using this diet.
