Create A Nicotine Patch

Smoking is an addiction that millions of Americans struggle with. This battle with smoking is fierce enough that one's life depends on it. This is why technological medical advancements consistently develop ways to aid those who face difficulty in quitting, hence the introduction of nicotine patches. A nicotine patch is known as an article devised to deliver nicotine through the skin, all the way to the bloodstream. This helps the smoker cut down on the amount of nicotine he is taking in to help him quit. A nicotine patch is easy to make and the following are the steps for coming up with one.

Instructions

1. Get chewing or pipe tobacco and place it in a bowl of water. Use gloves and eye protection throughout the procedure. Refrain from having direct contact with the substance. There should b enough water to soak the tobacco overnight.

2. Use a paper towel to strain the liquid into a cooking pot after the tobacco has been soaked. To maximize the rest of the liquid, wring the paper towel over the pot to extract the rest of the liquid and bring it to a boil. The more water that evaporates, the purer the nicotine will become.

3. Be sure that the nicotine is syrupy at this point. Spoon the nicotine out and transfer it to a tightly sealed container. Remember that nicotine can be lethal.

4. Use a small disc roughly an inch or less in diameter for the patch. This may be configured in different ways, but it is important to use the right the material for the patch. Preferably, use a patch made of impermeable membrane so you can control the pace of nicotine being transmitted to the skin. Plastics made of several layers of different types are usually used for this.

5. Place sufficient amount of the nicotine on the surface of the disc and cover it with the appropriate permeable membrane in such a way that it controls the rate of the drug's trans-epidermal delivery. Note that it is important to consult a doctor about the correct dosage of nicotine to be placed in each patch. Failing to consult a doctor could lead to overdose.

6. Use only the medical-grade type of adhesive and one that is water-resistant so it can withstand perspiration and still adhere to the skin. Also make sure that the material is flexible in order to adapt to body movements. Preferably use a permeable adhesive and attach it to the other side of the patch. Ask your local medical supply store representative for the right adhesive for nicotine patches.
