Stop Smoking With Lozenges

Quitting smoking with lozenges requires weening off of addictive nicotine.

Nicotine lozenges are a tool used by those who wish to quit smoking, but still need the chemical in their system to fight dependence. The lozenges come in varied strengths of the nicotine measured in milligrams -- with the smallest of the lozenges being half of a milligram -- and the most potent being four milligrams. Users ween themselves off of nicotine by switching from cigarettes to high dosage lozenges, and then gradually working their way down from high dosage lozenges to low dosage lozenges.

Instructions

1. Remove all the cigarettes from your household and vehicle. Take one 4 mg lozenge in the morning, if a craving for a cigarette comes within the first 30 minutes of waking up.

2. Take a 2 mg lozenge, if the craving comes after the first 30 minutes, but still in the first hour. Do not bite the lozenge, or swallow it whole. Move the lozenge around in your mouth until it dissolves.

3. Use the lozenges for up to two weeks before switching to a lower dose. Switch to a 2 mg lozenge, if using a 4 mg -- or switch from a 2 mg to a .5 mg lozenge. After two weeks on the lowest possible dosage, attempt to stop using lozenges completely. Use a .5 mg lozenge sparingly -- no more than once every two days -- for cravings.
