Create A Detox Smoothie

Detox smoothies can be the perfect breakfast replacement or enjoyed after a hard workout to help clear the body of metabolic waste, cleanse the colon and give you a boost of energy. Packed full of vitamins, minerals and fiber, a detox smoothie also makes a great meal replacement for those looking to lose a few pounds. In just a few steps, you can begin creating your own detox smoothie recipes. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Begin by choosing a high fiber fruit to use as the base of your smoothie. Apples and pears with the peel on are among the best detox fruits; however, you can also make your smoothie with bananas or berries which are also high in fiber.

2. Select a citrus fruit to add to your smoothie blend. Citrus fruits are the perfect detox ingredient as they help to break up mucus and plague in the digestive tract. You can use lemons, oranges or grapefruit, adding as much as you like; however, make sure that you leave the white meat of the peel as it contains the most nutrients.

3. Add some extra fiber which will help to gently scrape the linings of the digestive system, aiding in detox and elimination. The best additive may be flaxseed; however, you may also choose all raw granola, oat meal or even wheat germ. Again, add at least 1 tbsp., augmenting for your particular taste.

4. Blend the ingredients in a high powered blender and then pour into a tall glass. Add a pinch of large grain sea salt and stir with a spoon. The sea salt will help to flush your digestive organs and will also aid in elimination. Make sure that you do not add the salt to the blender, as it will break up into small pieces and give your detox smoothie a very salty taste.
